HOW TO DECORATE A SMALL TERRACE / COMO DECORAR UNA TERRAZA PEQUEÑA

Ester and Javi asked me for helping to decorate their terrace, and that is because some times the smallest spaces are the most difficult to decorate.

The most of the time we don´t think in decorate small terraces for their size  and we  used it like “storage room” or for put some plants. But we don´t have to miss even one square meter of our home, and with a correct decoration we can won an extra space that we are not counting and above all a welcoming atmosphere.

The first that we have to raise is the use that we want for the space: relax, for breakfast, garden space…

Ester y Javi me han pedido ayuda para decorar su terraza, y es que a veces los espacios más pequeños son los más difíciles de amueblar. 

Las terrazas de reducidas dimensiones muchas veces se convierten en lugares que a priori no pensamos en decorar por su tamaño y su poco juego, y acabamos utilizandolo de “trastero” o bien para alojar unas cuantas plantas. Pero no hay que desaprovechar ni un sólo metro cuadrado de una vivienda, y con la decoración adecuada podemos ganar un espacio extra con el que no contabamos y sobre todo un ambiente acogedor.

Lo primero que debemos plantearnos es el uso que le queremos dar:  espacio de relax, para tomar desayunos , zona ajardinada…

The second thing is take measures of the space and choose furniture that aren´t oversized,  we have to take into account the step and circulation spaces. For that the best choice is folding furniture, if we put a small breakfast area we can put fixed for two person and we can have an extra furniture for more person that we can hang up on the wall, including an extra table if we want dinner or take the lunch in the terrace.

Lo segundo será tomar medidas y elegir un mueble que no nos quede sobredimensionado, es decir, hemos de tener en cuenta los espacios de paso y circulación. Para ello, la mejor opción es la elección de mobiliario plegable, así, si montamos una pequeña zona de desayunos podemos tener desplegada permanentemente para dos comensales y tener colgado en la pared de la terraza sillas extra para más miebros de la familia, e incluso disponer de alguna mesa extra si queremos cenar o comer en la terraza.

The third thing is the placement of the vegetation, if we don´t have enough space, besides occupying the balustrade, we can opt for hang up the plants on the wall ( like a cordobes patio).

La tercera cosa que debemos tener en cuenta es la disposición de la vegetación,   si no tenemos suficiente espacio, además de la ocupación de la barandilla, podemos optar por la colocación de las plantas en pared (como creando nuestro propio y pequeño patio cordobés).

The last and very important,  you don´t forget the decoration of your terrace, wich it makes that this space be welcoming.

Cushions, candles, flowerpots, the lights (very important,  don´t limit yourself to use the terrace only by the day), rugs (better if it will be with stripe fabric , your terrace looks like be more wide, there are ones special for outside but you can use the cotton fabric on summer, they are washable and cheaper,  reminds  pick up it if is raining).

Por último y muy importante, no olvides decorar tu terraza, es lo que hará que ese espacio sea acogedor.

Cojines, velas, cajas , macetas, iluminación (muy importante, nos os limiteis al uso de la terraza sólo por el día), alfombras (si son con rayas mejor, parecerá que tu terraza es más ancha, aunque las hay especiales de exteriores, en verano puede usar las de algodón son lavables y económicas, acuerdate de recogeerlas si llueve).
